Zachary Taylor Orphanage Report

PHOTOS ADDED SINCE FIRST POST

Zachary Taylor Orphanage Report:
Andrea Horne and Dawn Hughes traveled to Zachary Taylor Orphanage on Wednesday to spend 2 days working with the children. We were greeted by the children and staff with warm smiles and singing. We met with the staff and toured the new constructed dorms. We had a ribbon cutting ceremony for both the boy’s dorm and the girl’s. They were very excited about their new home and especially the full length mirrors. After the welcome and ceremony, it was time for singing and dancing. The children recently competed in a music competition and made it all the way to the national level, so they performed their program for us. We purchased a guitar for the orphanage before leaving Nairobi, so Andrea taught the children three ‘American’ songs. We brought a variety of music instruments for all the children, cymbals, kazoos, maracas, shakers, and drums. The sound was amazing!
Thursday we started the day stopping by the bookstore to purchase new school books for the orphanage. Dr. Enosh had arranged for the bookstore to have student books and teacher books for English, Math, Kiswahili, Science, Social Studies, Early Child Development (for the little ones) and Christian Life. We were able to purchase new exercise book for each child to put in their new backpacks we brought from America. The teacher received some teaching supplies as well. This is an incredible gift for ZTO, new school books! We traveled on to the orphanage and continued our praise and worship. We learn from Wednesday’s section that we needed to organize the children by age and musical instrument.  The children really mastered the “Victory Chant”, “This Little Light of Mine”, “He’s got the whole world in His Hands” (with hand motions) and others. Their voices are incredible and they have a nature rhythm. We finished the day with gifts and presentation. The jump ropes, soccer balls, frisbies and yoyo were a huge success. Thanks to all our donors!
The beds are being made and will be delivered next week. Our next project will be the construction of a bathhouse, the first for the orphanage. Thanks to all the contributors and supporter of ZTO. The children asked me to express their love and appreciation. They pray to God every night asking Him to shower blessing on all the people of Bay Leaf, the Barbour Family and all that contribute to their orphanage.
All 167 children are doing well, happy and healthy!!!!
